Weird and Wonderful Wood is a unique and much-loved annual event that has been running for over 30 years. Originally set up by Tarby Davenport MBE, this well-established and respected event in the East Anglian cultural calendar is now run by a small team; Tarby's daughter Sarah Barker, Sue Taylor and Taliesin Wolsey. Sarah worked alongside her mother at the event over the years, Sue helped Tarby with the admin for the event and Taliesin attended the event as a child with his parents and is now site manager. Born out of Tarby's deep appreciation for wood in all its forms, the event has grown into a busy, vibrant, family-friendly celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, nature, and community.
The event attracts a broad and inclusive audience aged 0 - 100, including:
The local community as well as international visitors
Families with children and grandparents
Creative individuals and makers
Nature lovers
Disabled people and those with additional needs
Visitors interested in eco-living, sustainability, and traditional skills
Many of our visitors return year after year, drawn by the relaxed atmosphere, high-quality entertainment, and the rare chance to engage with skilled craftspeople in an inspiring setting. We expect around 10,000 visitors over the weekend. We have stalls from over 130 traders, over 50 performers and bands and more than 25 free workshops and demonstrations.
The team of three event managers are supported by over 100 dedicated crew, bringing organisation, hard work and the drive to create an atmosphere of wonder and delight.
