The Out There Festival has been running for 17 years in Great Yarmouth. Within this time it has taken many shapes and sizes but this year was the biggest yet. The festival takes place in public spaces around Great Yarmouth, from parks to car parks to the beach. The festival brings visitors to the town from far and wide whilst also being a great day out for locals. In fact, this year the event attracted over 400 professional delegates, both national & international, as part of FRESH STREET #5. FRESH is an international flagship conference for the outdoor arts & circus sector. As part of the Out There Festival, the conference was hosted in the UK for the first time.
This year the Out There Festival attracted 65,000 people. The festival took place across 10 sites: St George's Park, the Market Place, the Drill House, The Ice House, St George's Theatre, Blackfriars & Deneside, the Beach, Trafalgar Green, York Rd & St Nicholas Car Park. Across these sites there were 23 pitches that were jam-packed with shows. There were over 60 artistic companies, 17 of which were international, 18 world or UK premieres and 9 shows made in Great Yarmouth. This added up to 180 shows across the festival which equates to 150 hours of free entertainment! Not to mention local young bands who played at various stages.
Year round the core team of Out There Arts is 12 people but during the festival if you include freelance staff there are around 120 people!
