About the Festival/Event
Alstom’s The Greatest Gathering saw Britain’s largest and oldest operating train factory – Derby Litchurch Lane Works – open its doors to the public for the first time in almost 50 years to display over 140 rail vehicles. Marking the 200th anniversary of the modern railway, the sold-out event was the world’s largest-ever gathering of historic and modern rolling stock.

Over three days, more than 40,000 visitors attended the festival, alongside hundreds of exhibitors from both the mainline and heritage spheres. It was supported by hundreds of Alstom volunteers who oversaw everything from health and safety measures, to wayfinding and seamless logistics. The event raised in excess of thousands for charity partners, generated international media coverage and boosted Derby’s economy in the process.
